Biography of Jérémy Zhiqian Lyu

Born in Shanghai in 2009, LYU Zhiqian (Jérémy) is one of the most promising young pianists of his generation.

After studying at the high school affiliated with the Shanghai Conservatory of Music under Wang Kuanwen, he entered the Paris National Conservatory of Music and Dance (CNSMDP) in 2025 at the age of just 15, having been unanimously admitted to Denis Pascal’s class.

His work at the CNSMDP, shaped by Denis Pascal’s high standards, follows in the French tradition: clear phrasing, a sense of structure, refined harmony, a distinct counterpoint, and freedom grounded in form.

A recipient of the Fondation de l’Or du Rhin International Excellence Scholarship, he quickly made a name for himself on the international stage:
– Teplice, 2024: Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 1 with the North Bohemian Philharmonic Orchestra (conducted by Charles Olivieri-Munroe);
– March 2025: Selected for the preliminary rounds of the 19th International Chopin Piano Competition (Warsaw);
– December 2025: 6th prize (Artist category) at the Nashville International Chopin Piano Competition, where he was the youngest laureate;
– February 2026: Guest on France Musique, Générations France Musique, and Le Live (Clément Rochefort).

With his clear interpretation of the text, natural phrasing, and unforced breathing, he has established himself as one of the most notable talents of his generation. At the age of 16, he completed a complete recording of Chopin’s four Ballades, demonstrating a rare maturity and a profound artistic vision.

Artistic Statement

“Freedom has value only within the framework of form: every nuance arises from a logic that illuminates emotion. Faithfulness to the text is not a constraint, but the starting point for a personal and vibrant expression. Music is not a calculation—it is a thought that breathes and moves the soul.”
