Ensemble Aedes
Mathieu Romanoconductor of the heart

Aedes celebrates its 20th anniversary!

20 years of a human adventure fueled by a passion for choral singing, guided by the expression and sharing of emotions at the source of a unique sound combining homogeneity, brilliance, power and roundness.

For this anniversary, Mathieu Romano has imagined a program emblematic of the ensemble's savoir-faire, based on the major works that have marked its career.

The choir, made up of 28 a cappella singers, will explore the many facets of choral art, its diversity of colors and harmonies, ranging from masterpieces of the Romantic and post-romantic repertoire (Brahms'Warum ist das Licht gegeben dem Mühseligen?, Rachmaninov's Bogoroditse Devo, Barber's Agnus Dei ) to contemporary music, via the creators of early 20th-century modernity whom the ensemble has endeavored to make better known.

This anthology features Francis Poulenc, one of Aedes' chosen composers from the outset: the ensemble will devote a complete recording to him, to be released in autumn 2025. His Mass in G Major is one of the cornerstones of this program, alongside equally essential works by Benjamin Britten(A.M.D.G) and Frank Martin(Mass for double a cappella choir).

Aedes champions the music of today; it is an integral part of its repertoire and discography. Philippe Hersant's Trois poèmes d'Eichendorff, the ensemble's first commission in 2008, will be reinterpreted for this anniversary season.
