Ensemble Aedes
Mathieu Romanoconductor of the heart

Aedes is the fruit of a human adventure initiated in 2005 by Mathieu Romano. One of France's most renowned choirs, its 17 male and female singers are united by the same fervor for choral art, which they serve at the highest level.

Aedes explores all eras, from Baroque music to the repertoires of the 20th and 21st centuries, right through to contemporary creation. The ensemble distinguishes itself through original programs in the form of staged performances, collaborations with artists from other worlds (dance, theater, visual arts, etc.) and forays into various musical genres, such as French chanson and flamenco.

Gifted with great stage presence, Aedes is acclaimed and regularly invited as an opera choir on France's finest lyric stages. The ensemble performs in such prestigious venues as the Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra-Comique, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Opéra de Paris, Théâtre du Châtelet, Palais de Chaillot... It takes part in festivals such as Aix-en-Provence, La Chaise-Dieu, Besançon, Radio France Montpellier, La Folle Journée de Nantes and Rencontres Musicales de Vézelay. He performs on European stages in Vienna (Konzerthaus, Musikverein), Amsterdam, Krakow, Granada (Festival International de Musique et de Danse)...

Twentieth-century music and contemporary creation play an essential role in the ensemble's activities. Its rich discography devoted to the sacred and secular repertoire of this period has been enthusiastically received by audiences and critics alike.

Aedes collaborates with renowned ensembles in the interpretation of vocal and instrumental masterpieces (Les Siècles, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, Latvian Radio Choir).

Based at Saint-Riquier Abbey in the Hauts-de-France region, Aedes promotes choral singing, notably through a special partnership with the Somme département.

Its program of cultural activities includes concerts in health and care establishments, as well as training courses in singing and choral conducting for young professionals and amateurs alike. It supports the development of vocal practice in schools and contributes to the training of an academic choir for teachers, in partnership with the Académie d'Amiens.

The 2025-2026 season will mark the 20th anniversary of Aedes. It will feature a host of projects emblematic of the ensemble's expertise, including the release of the complete a cappella works of Francis Poulenc in autumn 2025.
