Fransesca Dego

Italian-American violinist Francesca Dego is renowned for her versatility, captivating interpretations and impeccable technique.

For the 2024/25 season, she will make her debut with the London Symphony Orchestra in Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto, and with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra under Luisi in Beethoven's Violin Concerto. She will also appear with the Orchestra della Svizzera Italiana, the Sinfonica di Milano, La Toscanini, the symphony orchestras of Vancouver, Detroit and San Diego, the Orchestre de Cannes, and will make her debut with the Philharmonique de Luxembourg at the Flâneries Musicales de Reims. In recital, she will appear at the Wigmore Hall with Alessandro Taverna, and at the Belfast International Chamber Festival and the Dubai Opera with Francesca Leonardi.

Recent engagements include tours of Japan with the NHK Symphony Orchestra under Fabio Luisi, as well as appearances with the Washington National and Indianapolis Symphony Orchestras, the Orquesta de Castilla y León, and the Orchestre des Champs-Élysées under Philippe Herreweghe. She has also made debuts with the Swedish Radio Symphony, Bergen Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, West Australian Symphony and Queensland Symphony. She is a frequent guest with the Hallé Orchestra, City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestra Haydn and Brucknerhaus Linz. She has also performed with the Tokyo Metropolitan Orchestra, Tokyo Symphony, Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, at the Stars of the White Nights Festival in St. Petersburg, and made her Canadian debut with the National Arts Centre Orchestra in Ottawa in 2023. In Europe, highlights include Bernstein's Serenade at La Fenice, appearances with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Nice, the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo, the Gürzenich Orchestra de Cologne, the Orquestra de Sevilla, the Orquestra de la Comunitat Valenciana, the Orchestra dell'Opera Carlo Felice de Gênes, the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia and at Turin's Teatro Regio. In the UK, she has performed with the BBC Symphony, Ulster Orchestra, Philharmonia, Royal Philharmonic and Royal Scottish National Orchestra, as well as the National Youth Orchestra.

In 2023, she made her recording debut with the London Symphony Orchestra as the first featured artist on the new Apple Classical platform with "A New Dawn", featuring the Chevalier de Saint-Georges Concerto No. 2, conducted by Jonathon Heyward. She regularly collaborates with renowned conductors such as Fabio Luisi, Philippe Herreweghe, Daniele Rustioni, Lionel Bringuier, Dalia Stasevska, Markus Stenz, Donato Renzetti, Gemma New, Jader Bignamini, Alpesh Chauhan, Asher Fisch, Markus Poschner, Krzysztof Urbański and Xian Zhang.

Passionate about chamber music, Francesca enjoys playing alongside artists such as Francesco Piemontesi, Daniel Müller-Schott, Timothy Ridout, Jan Lisiecki, Salvatore Accardo, Alessandro Carbonare, Mahan Esfahani, Bruno Giuranna, Shlomo Mintz, Narek Hakhnazaryan, Federico Colli, Mischa Maisky, Antonio Meneses, Martin Owen, Alessandro Taverna, Enrico Dindo, Alessio Bax, Roman Simovic and Francesca Leonardi.

Francesca is signed exclusively to Chandos Records. Her expanding discography includes a recent recording of the Busoni and Brahms violin concertos with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Dalia Stasevska, released in March 2024, for which she received the prestigious Franco Abbiati Award. Her recordings of Mozart's violin concertos with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra under Sir Roger Norrington have received unanimous critical acclaim, including a five-star "Record of the Month" in BBC Music Magazine. In June 2024, Chandos released an album of horn trios by Brahms, Ligeti, Mozart and Schumann, on which Francesca collaborates with Martin Owen (horn) and Alessandro Taverna (piano). Her other recordings for Chandos include the Il Cannone recital disc, as well as albums for Deutsche Grammophon featuring concertos by Paganini and Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra and Daniele Rustioni, and a complete collection of Beethoven's violin sonatas and Paganini's Caprices.

Francesca is also passionate about contemporary music and is dedicatee of several works by Michael Nyman, Carlo Boccadoro, Cristian Carrara, Nicola Campogrande and Marco Taralli, among others. She is a frequent contributor to specialist music magazines and writes a monthly column for Suonare News, as well as writing for The Strad, BBC and Classical Music Magazines, Musical Opinion and Strings Magazine. Recently, she published her first book with Mondadori - Tra le Note. Classica: 24 chiavi di lettura - in which she explores the relevance and understanding of classical music in the modern world.

Francesca is based in London and plays a rare Francesco Ruggeri violin (Cremona 1697).
