Biography of Yevgny Sudbin

Yevgeny Sudbin’s artistry has taken him to the world’s greatest concert halls, from London’s Royal Festival Hall and Amsterdam’s Concertgebouw to Zurich’s Tonhalle and New York’s Lincoln Center. His performances with orchestras such as the BBC Symphony, the Finnish Radio Symphony, and the San Francisco Symphony have been shaped by inspiring collaborations with conductors including Sakari Oramo, Jakub Hrůša, and Osmo Vänskä. His chamber music partnerships and solo recitals continue to captivate audiences around the world.

A long-standing leading artist on the BIS Records label, his recordings have received international acclaim, praised for their depth and originality, and have been honored with numerous awards, including BBC Music Magazine’s Recording of the Month, several Gramophone Editor’s Choice awards, and most recently the Gramophone Recording of the Year 2023. Described by The Independent as “a pianist of uncommon sensitivity and refinement, who possesses complete confidence in his imaginative vision of each work,” Sudbin is considered one of the most fascinating artists of our time.

Born in Saint Petersburg in 1980, he began his musical career at the city’s prestigious specialized music school. He went on to study in Germany and the United Kingdom, honing his skills at the Purcell School and then at the Royal Academy of Music, where he is now a visiting professor. Based in London with his family, he balances his musical life with a passion for photography.
