The Worlds of Antonín Dvořák
It might be tempting to reduce Antonín Dvořák to his status as a pioneer of “The New World” and his symphony of the same name, given how deeply it has left—and continues to leave—its mark: John Williams drew inspiration from it to compose the music for *Star Wars* and *Jaws*, and Neil Armstrong took a recording of it to the Moon… However, that would be to overlook the composer’s attachment to his homeland and the extent to which it influenced his entire body of work. From the small village of Nelahozeves to the depths of Iowa, via the Vysoká estate, this lecture offers a true journey in Dvořák’s footsteps, inviting us to listen to his music with fresh ears.
